The most loved second of all

Remember remember the 5th of November... & remember to take your Faust's Potions after all that hot cider, to ensure that you actually can remember the 5th of November! #bonfirenight #hangovercure www.faustspotions.com http://www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2013/10/09/list-of-londons-2013-bonfire-night-fireworks/What is it that separates one year from the next?
The bitter truth: 1 second. It takes one second for the New year to come. How much does one
really think will change within that one second? 11.59: 59pm we have 2013 and 12.00pm we have 2014.

Have you ever thought though how powerful that one second is?
The power of one second is highly underestimated in everyday life but soooo overated on New Year's eve!
One second is not considered worthy in our everyday life but somehow all of our hopes for the future and the pain which has been felt seem to be all boil down to that one second which takes us from one year to another.

This has been a recent thought of mine where I was thinking of how people feel waiting for New Years day and on the day iitself. It is common to wait for the year to go and wait for the new one to come because of what the old year will take and what the new will bring.

New year's resolutions is a display of how people think they will transform instantly within that one second which separates 2 years appart. Ofcourse people don't think of this tranformation to be down to one second but the reality is that it takes that one seccond to go from one year to the next.

Resolutions are peoples way of displaying hope for what they will do to improve themselves and their lives.
Another example of people displaying their hope with that one second is how they want the year to go as fast as possible if it was a hard one.

It is as if the pain which was felt or the hard times have been waiting for the year to pass in order to stop the pain. This is hope itself. Hope that with the departure of the year so will the pain and bad  moments.

No one begins a New Year or waits for it thinking it will be full of hate, pain or failure. It is hope, happy moments and memories that people await for with the New Year!
At least I haven't heard of anyone saying oh my God how bad will this year be?
I usually hear resolutions being made, hopes, plans and people curious and anxious in a good way of what it will bring.

So this is what has made me think that people are so impatient for the first day of the year. It is hope. Hope that things will be better. Hope that loved ones will be closer to them. Hope that they will find their other half this year. It is so funny though if you realise that this all hangs in one second. One second before 24:00 on the 31st of December!

Greek mothers - Can't live with them, can't live without them

All mother, in the world, could be seen as over protective or always see their little ones as little but Greek mothers my friends are a special kind of breed especially the ones who have sons!

Now before you jump into conclusions about what you are about to read I must clear up that no all of them are as described but most of them. Also younger generation mothers in their 40's and 50's are also different to the traditional mother model!

So you will ask what is so different about Greek mother? Where do I begin?
A Greek mother has a special relationship with food - or shall I Say obsession! No, not for herself but she will make her children, her neighbours children and any person who steps into the house to visit eat where people actually end up eating just to get her off their back as no is not acceptable!

Besides food is the answer to everything that may be wrong with you from depression to stress. They know more about than a dietitian, doctor etc which takes me to the next point which is the: 'Greek mother is a walking encyclopedia'.

The Greek mother knows best and everything. No it doesn't matter if you are the best in your profession - she will always know better than you about your job whatever the field. They are an expert on everything according to them even though they have no clue unless it is about housework which is our next point.

The term queen is very limited to describe the Greek mother in her home. They have a special relationship with any cleaning device or product which would actually complain if possible as Greek mothers do tend to knock out anything that can be used to clean. Obsession is a term not enough to use in order to describe the madness of mothers which clean every day even things like mats!

Greek mothers never accept their children are grown up and that they are full grown adults and have a personality of their own and this is why they always other - any other people- know better than their children or even are always right. After all how can a child be right?

Now...my favourite part: mothers with sons! I will let the following picture speak for itself, taken in the Athens riots :

Now....what we have here is a classic example of a mother with her son and their obsession with jackets - God forbid you do not take your jacket or coat going out!  This does not end with a second or third child of course - it just  multiplies.
And God forbid the son gets a girlfriend, gets married etc. No woman is ever good enough. She will never be a better cook, housewife, mother etc. Besides she should not be accepted if she can't cook cause after all the Greek mother thinks that it is unacceptable for a woman not to cook. Again - not all are like that I repeat!

The funny thing of course is that all of them keep going on about how unfair their mother in laws are or were only to do the same to their daughters in law. Most mothers who are around 60 have also never done anything but housework which means they cannot detach themselves from their sons when they become an adult and treat them like babies!

If you visit a Greek army base you will I promise laugh your head off when mothers visit. It is really funny to watch a grown man who is trained in the army and has a gun to use being force fed by mummy cause she knows best and he has to eat all of his food.

Now as far as mothers with daughters and sons goes, you would imagine that they would teach their sons to be respective to women as mothers are women and treat equally their daughter and son: NO big mistake.
No matter how badly they may have been treated as a woman or by their mother in law they rarely try to make a difference raising a son. It is quite common with mothers over 50 in Greece to see how a daughter is shown to be independent but the son is actually handed even a glass of water so he will not need to get up.

Cant imagine what relationship problems this gap will create for these children: fully independent daughters taught to fight for their rights and demand equality and sons being treated as an Arab prince!

But I have to admit there are things that Greek mothers have which make them incomparable.
Greek mothers without notice will ask a friend to stay over for lunch and she will will be called an aunt by close friends as she will take in her children's friends. She will no matter how old her children are help and take them in to live with her if in difficulty and she will become a babysitter for her grandchildren and even help economically in their growing up.

And this is what makes Greek mothers one of a kind - can't live with them but we can't live without them!

Falling out of love!

So Im out walking my dog, early afternoon, thinking of my last post, when it dawned on me:
how do we fall out of love? Of course peple get treated like shit by who they thought was the
'love of their life' blah blah blah all that crap and so on. But what is the point that makes that one defining point in time where you see the person that you so madly loved maked you wan to throw up or in some cases just gently put your fingers in their eyebals and sweetly feel like wanting to tear their face off their head-always lovingly ofcourse, we are not animals!

Is it as simple as: you were treated like crap, so you started to dislike him or her?

We get treated like shit everyday. Surrounded by people who for some like my downstairs neighbour, I believe might have escaped cuckoo's nest, by that does not make me experience feelings like the ones I have described above!

So what is it about romantic love that makes so many wonderful feelings turn into something so negative, into something taken out of the 'the war of the Roses' !!!
war-of-roses-truck.jpg

How come any other relationship hasn't got the same aftershock effect on us?
Or is it that it is so intensely good at the begining that it just works like a boomerang when it turns bad?
It is funny how romantic relationships have the craziest effects on us-both good and bad.
They seem to create the strongest feelings like love or jealousy or you tend to become posessive at times.

My interest is what makes us go from one end, which is total love for the other person  to passing him or her in the street and have either no feelings for the person you were so intimate with once, or in the worst case scenario, see them with their new 'amore' and want to throw stones at them. Ofcourse I may be exadurating just to stress the point Im trying to make but the focus is how do we fall out of love, rather than 'crazy bicth practices after a bad brake up' which come to think about it could make an interesting book title.

How is it that the person we once loved has become unloved? Honestly, I don't think it is as simple as 's/he didnt treat me right'. What happens and what are the processes we go through to dissarm our feelings for another once so important to us? We face bad attitudes everyday- at work, school, uni. Even amongst friends we tend to have misunderstandings and fights but these don't seem to have such effects on us.

I find hard to believe that we have an internal switch like machines which we use when breaking up cause unlike machines, people have feelings, perception and some let me say are highly unpredictable - so how can we stop feeling something for someone we fell a lot about? Or even worse how can such good feelings turn to become the exact opposite at times?

What is the internal force driving this process? Is it a simple answer as I was treated bad? Is that enough or is it so simple to fall out of love?

Why we fall in love again....

How many times have you heard your self say 'never again' after a bad brake up?
The moment you feel hurt and betrayed and that you have invested in something
that in simple words went to hell.

You start to believe that all women are cows or all men bastards because it seems as
if every single fucking time you put down your shield, open up and start trusting again
it will be different somehow. This is the reason we love again: HOPE

No matter how hard the last brake up, with your chest in pain, tottal heartache,
even if you shrivel up and lose all faith in people and develop a hatred for Hollywood
romantic films. There is always the hope that the new person you have met will not hurt you,
will treat you right, will give you what you deserve, may even be the one!

For some reason this happens at the beggining of every new relationship as the start
of every romantic relationship feels heavenly (until someone leaves the toilet seat up or takes
3 hours to do their make up in the bathroom). You always feel like maybe this time will be
different. This person is different. This time you will get what you deserve.
And then...... boom....you realise there is no fucking shit like what you hoped for.
You feel betrayed again cry at every chance, hate the couples you see kissing in the street
looking in love and you get that chest pain which makes you finally understand what a heartache
is (something you thought was actually metaphorically used).

And guess what? After a whille you meet someone and remember how good it is to
get that attention and being looked after and live in the moment where no one else exist
for the other person but you. And then you start thinking that this time may be different.
This is after all....Hope!

RED 2

Having seen or not Red it is easy to follow Red 2.
Poster of Red 2Even so, the first film is worth the effort to watch as it is a funny film worth watching. Red 2 is also a funny film with great cast taking you to
many nice places like Paris, London and Moscow.

At first the cast may seem a little too many stars packed in
one film, stars that may nt fit together like Bruce Willis and
Anthony Hopkins with Kathryn Z. Jones but the end result
was not dissapointing.

The initial idea of Red is kept and ofcource John Malkovich offers his
fab lines served with the acoording face making you laugh.

It isn't a film to keep you at the edge of your seet, with unexpected turn of events and surprise you leaving you speechless. It is though entertaining, funny and enjoyable making it worth a nice film to watch
in a hot summer night with your friends.
